Diamond Tip Exfoliation to Improve Skin Radiance
Approximately every 28 days, we create a new layer of skin. As new cells form, they push dead and damaged skin cells to the surface. This can cause enlarged or clogged pores, a bumpy or uneven texture, and a dull appearance. As we age, the regeneration process of the skin slows down leading to the appearance of older skin with less radiance.
Microdermabrasion is a safe, superficial skin treatment. A fine diamond tip used to gently exfoliate the skin’s surface. The intensity can be adjusted to a gentler or stronger setting appropriate to your skin’s specific needs. This process allows the exfoliation of approximately 20 to 25 microns of dead skin cells of the outmost layer (or stratum corneum). The result is glowing and radiant skin.
Women and men of any skin type or color with aging, flaky, dry, devitalized, thickened, blemished, dulled, or sun-damaged skin will see results. The texture and brightness of the skin will be improved after one session but the ultimate benefit of Microdermabrasion will be achieved after a series of 3 to 6 treatments. Microdermabrasion also helps patients with acne.
Frequently Asked Questions About Microdermabrasion
Is Microdermabrasion painful?
No, Microdermabrasion is a very gentle procedure, with no discomfort and no downtime.
Can I combine Microdermabrasion with other treatments?
Absolutely. Microdermabrasion enhances any other treatment that will follow, whether it is your regular skin care regime at home, a facial, Photorejuvenation (IPL), or chemical peels. In fact, in our Ottawa Cosmetic Clinic, we strongly encourage the combination of Microdermabrasion and Photorejuvenation (IPL), as it improves the light and radiofrequency penetration into the skin and, consequently, the efficacy of the IPL treatment by 40%.
Similarly, we offer a Synergistic facial, where a Microdermabrasion is performed prior to one of our SkinMedica facials, allowing the skin care products to penetrate as much as 50% better and allowing for much easier and less traumatic extractions if they are required during your service.
What body areas can be treated?
The most common areas treated with Microdermabrasion are the face, neck, and chest. We also offer on the back, legs, and arms.
How many treatments will I need?
Microdermabrasion treatment is meant to be progressive, not aggressive. Although the skin will immediately look fresher, smoother, and softer after the first session, a series of 3 to 6 treatments is recommended.
This procedure is also very popular as a single treatment prior to an important event or reunion as a quick boost for the skin. Treatments can be performed weekly, monthly, or every 6 to 8 weeks, depending on the underlying skin condition.
How long does each treatment take?
Usually, a treatment will take 20 to 40 minutes from start to finish, depending on the area(s) being treated.
