If you suffer from chronic migraines, you know all too well the pain of suffering from debilitating headaches that last for hours or even days. Your quality of life, the time you spend with your loved ones, and your productivity at work are significantly affected by migraines. Thankfully, medical treatment for chronic migraines provides the relief you need to live your life. Using Botox® for migraine treatment alleviates symptoms and lets you get back to your life.
What are Chronic Migraines?
Migraines fall into one of two categories: with or without aura. Migraines with aura usually carry indicators or early symptoms like dizziness, confusion, and vision changes, to name a few. Migraines without aura have none of these indicators, and arrive quickly without warning.
Common migraine without aura symptoms include:
- Headache on one side of the head only
- Throbbing or pulsing quality to the headache
- Moderate to severe pain intensity
- Aggravated by sound
Migraines can rapidly confine sufferers to bed. Chronic migraine is defined as 15 or more days per month (for at least three months) of migraine pain, of which 8 of those days are characterized by migraines without aura. Though debilitating, treatment with Botox® has been shown to have a profound effect on migraine pain and symptoms.
How Botox® Relieves
Chronic Headache Pain
By injecting Botox® in precise muscle sites in the head and neck, the nerve impulses that stimulate muscles to become tense and knotted are blocked. In turn, this prevents migraines from forming in the first place.
Treatment is painless. Dr. Caroline Tosoni has been performing Botox® therapeutic injections since 2000, and is renowned for her precise and gentle touch. Injections typically take between 15 and 20 minutes, and results usually take effect within 2 weeks of the procedure. Studies have shown that 70% of patients receiving treatment see a 50% reduction in severity and/or frequency of headaches following treatment.
It is important to monitor and track the frequency of migraine symptoms and occurrences to understand how treatment is progressing. If you do not see immediate results, don’t worry; it can take up to three treatment sessions for patients to notice a change to chronic headache symptoms.
